The church of Christ began almost 2000 years ago in Jerusalem on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2), shortly after Jesus' ascension back to the Father (Acts 1). On that day, the apostles were filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke to the thousands that gathered (Acts 2:1-13). Peter's gospel sermon about Jesus Christ is recorded for us today (Acts 2:14-36).
Many in the crowd developed faith and asked what they should do about it (Acts 2:37). Peter responded, "Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit" (Acts 2:38). Three thousand souls received his word, were baptized and were added to the Lord's church (Acts 2:41).
The church of Christ at Spencer began in January 2002, and the Lord continuously blesses this work. We have experienced strong growth in faith and in number. In 2008 we acted on this faith – we hired Clint Oppermann as our preacher and purchased land for our own church building. It is our prayer that we remain a church fully dedicated to Jesus Christ and that He continues to bless this work.
